Treatments

How many treatments did it take for your puppy to get rid of hookworm and tapeworm?
We just adopted a 10-week old puppy. She’s received two treatments for both worms (pyrantel pamoate for hook and praziquantel for tape). The shelter said it could take up to four treatments for her to be in the clear. Based on your experience, how long does it take?
She’s going to the vet Monday afternoon. I’m too impatient to wait until then for an idea on how this will play out.
It can take a while to clear up both. You need to clean up right after the puppy goes to the bathroom so that he doesn’t keep reinfecting himself. After the treatments are done, bring a stool sample to the vets office so they can test it to see how the treatments are working. My vet requires two stool samples in a row to show as negative in order to say that they are parasite free. He also tests the stool twice a year to make sure the animal is parasite free.
The puppy can also be started on Interceptor heartworm preventative now, even though he won’t have his first heartworm check until he’s 9 months old. Interceptor has medication in it to help keep intestional parasite in check.
Good Luck
