I have depression, how can I join the Army?

Hello,

I will be 17 soon and I wish to join the Army reserves. I called my recruiter today, and he asked me about my medical history and so forth, I told him I take prozac for depression, and I got disqualified. I cant join untill 2 years of not taking the medicine. My aspirations of joining were immediatley shot down, after upon hearing this.

Im working on getting off the meds in 2 months. Doctor says once I am done with treatment, it will be erased off my medical records. Is this plausible?

I am determined to serve my country and protect the assets of the US, no matter what cost. Im thinking about even lieing about my medical history.

Please don’t think down upon me. I’ve dreamed of joining the service for years, and I can’t wait the two years.

it will NOT be erased, but if you can function normally for 12 months without the meds, a waiver will be considered.

and lying ? BAD IDEA. how would feel if you were responsible for the death of your fellow comrades becuase you had a relapse?! Lying on a federal document is not the best way to start off a military career, where one of the core values is INTEGRITY.. you either have it, or you don’t.

they WILL find out and they WILL charge you with Fraud and kick you out, ruining any chance you EVER had of getting in.
