Counselling And Psychotherapy

"Dependent" is a common concern that adults bring to psychotherapy. It is inconsistent with the character adults may be vulnerable or to cling to another person … especially near abroad as a therapist recently met … support or guidance.
North America is a culture of individualism. The cultural ideal for adult life is self-sufficiency and independence. The masculine ideal is the type "strong and silent, the man who is able to pull its own effort. The cultural ideal for women can afford a little more sense of communication, but the modern North America "ideal woman" is also courageous, strong and independent.
Many adults in North America would not be as whiners or victims … and tell their therapist since the beginning. They prefer to believe that their anxiety, depression or other psychological symptoms are caused by "stress" or vague physical complaints that are never allowed to think that maybe anxious or depressed because they feel unsafe or life events have been injured significantly.
It is often the place where the client begins to relax and feel accepted and safe to take a decision sudden stop treatment … especially if the immediate crisis that led to therapy has been somewhat resolved. Often, it is so that concerns about the dependence will be presented with a particular strength and intensity.
Psychologists sometimes speak a phenomenon they call "regression". In ordinary conversation would mean a regression something negative … the client is down below its normal operating level high to earlier or less developed … generally a little fear, weak, unscrupulous and primitive in nature. It is true that the regression in treatment may include moments of this, but it is not really what the regression in a sense therapy.
"Regression therapy" is a relaxing voluntary "rational" control in an environment who feels insurance. The checkpoint is relaxed to allow the emergence of other feelings and ideas that are usually suppressed but part of the client's honesty makeup … such as sadness, feelings of sadness, shame, anger or desire .. for the important people in Current or past client, or even the therapist.
One of the tragedies of life of many bad things happened to them as children and that there was no adult with you willingness to provide sufficient comfort to encourage or help understand his experience. It becomes a tragedy that continues in the lives of many adults who, because of the negligence of other children feel they can not expect help, support, encourage during their passage through expected and unexpected experience and adult stem transition.
Sometimes it is true that these feelings feel "Childish" and the therapist may be necessary to behave with the client at this moment as a caring father and head could be ideal. What can happen in a climate of trust.
A therapist has special training on how to react to new feelings and attitudes therapists how to work with them so they can be processed and examined without damage to the client.
Regression in a therapeutic sense … is closer to the confidence in the hope that the child feels in the presence of an adult to turn to a time difficulty, in the belief they will be understood, recognized and guided rather criticism or embarrassment. It is often a new experience to find the therapist, an adult who is useful and interactive.
"Fear dependence" is often the other difficulties. Beings humans are "social animals". Our long childhood and dependent children need to learn to interact with others. Too strong emphasis on independence interferes with the ability of adults to cooperate and to trust others create interpersonal problems and contribute to a sense loneliness, isolation or alienation.
"Regression in the service of growth." Lowering our guard in the treatment is part of a process that leads, not a chronic dependency, but for a better recognition of the will and intentions. It allows a client to hear most hidden parts and perhaps more childish and impulsive … or enter a state of consciousness characterized by self-acceptance and experience to be at the time.
It is through these experiences that the "regression", paradoxically, led to a healthy way before independence and the real growth of staff.
